Key Selection Criteria Coaching Program
WHO IS IT FOR?
- Job Seekers / Applicants
- Career Changers
- Everyone!
Many employers use key selection criteria (KSC) to determine which applicants are a good fit for a role. Most government jobs require them, and they are given a lot of weight. So it’s important to have solid written statements as your responses provide the opportunity to show the selection panel that you are the best person for the job. The problem is this can be very time consuming and if you don’t know how to respond to KSC you will quickly be eliminated. There is a very fine balance between being too detailed or too brief.
The upside of having to examine a job’s KSC is it can be a good way for you to find out whether the role is a good fit for you too. Writing them benefits you and gives you a better understanding of what the job requires, effectively serving as a rehearsal for a job interview. Your responses not only determine whether you make it to the shortlist but help decide whether you will be interviewed. Structured in the right way, and organized so that your responses are easily read and absorbed, increases your chances of being shortlisted.
How it works?
Your coaching sessions are designed around supporting you to address either the specific KSC of a job that you are applying to right now, or a sample advertised role, relevant to your profession, so that you can go through the end-to-end process of responding to KSC and acquire the skills to be able to respond to KSC as an active job applicant.
Over two sessions (with work undertaken in between sessions) the following principles are kept in mind:
- Basic research about the role in question to target responses accordingly.
- Understanding selection criteria – (requirements for a role and selection of a job candidate - can include qualifications, technical skills, soft skills and personal attributes).
- The difference between a caliber response versus a fair response.
- Addressing KSC in your resume – key words with short statements, dot points, using dynamic verbs to create a vivid picture of offering or clear description of role.
- Addressing KSC in your cover letter with more detailed examples of how you demonstrated these skills via paragraph.
- Addressing KSC in a separate document using STAR method supporting claims with evidence – achievements, concrete, and specific examples (factual evidence) & outcomes.
- The importance of quantification to support evidence statements.
